Tanzania
University Book Project
A part of the mission of the
Foundation is to impact the RIM profession internationally through educational
assistance. This project is a Foundation initiative intended to further this
aspect of our mission.
As many of us are aware, records
management education in developing nations is poor or non-existent. Such has
been the case with the University of Tanzania which has failed to start an
undergraduate records management and archives program due to lack of text books
and reference materials.
In Tanzania there are currently two colleges
which run certificate and diploma courses in records management. The colleges
take in approximately 50 students for each level each year per semester. In
order to provide these universities with the best possible resources for their
students, the ARMA International Educational Foundation (Foundation) has
undertaken a project to provide basic and intermediate records management texts
for the schools. In order to do so, we need your help.
If you would like
to help make a positive difference for Tanzania in records management, please
provide new or used records management texts and/or a donation to the Foundation
ear marked for this purpose. The Foundation will see that your donation directly
assists the students in Tanzania. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated
and recognized.
This donation to the University of Dar Es Salaam,
Tanzania will be made in memory of Michael J. Kinunda (1949 – 2008) who,
throughout his career, spent days and nights restructuring education programs
across the world in order to make sure everyone received the best education
possible. He was the First Secretary of Education before joining the UN (UNESCO
and UNICEF) where he remained in the education sector as a diplomat. The
position with the UN, gave him the opportunity to reach the masses across the
world. Education was Mr. Kinunda’s passion! No matter what positions he held
across the world, he always signed his name as M.J.K, the Educationalist. His
main purpose was to use his position to help others.
Ironically,
Michael’s son, Joseph Kinunda, lives and works in the U.S. in the field of
records and information management for an insurance company and he is quite
honored that this donation will be made in memory of his father who passed away
unexpectedly on January 26, 2008.
The books
currently
needed in Tanzania urgently for the upcoming Spring term are:
All publications are available
from the ARMA bookstore. Multiple copies (10 or more) of each book are
needed.
The foundation has made special
arrangement with the ARMA bookstore for any chapter or person wishing to
purchase books directly as donations for this project. To reach the ARMA
Bookstore click ARMA Bookstore
The checkout
routine will require that the "ship to" address (as shown below) is entered
precisely. This will assure that the books are sequestered for AIEF to ship
later.
Because
of the integration of the ARMA bookstore software with UPS, there will be a
charge for shipping. The donor will have to pay for this shipping charge in
order to complete the transaction. However, the books will not actually be
shipped anywhere and by means of an accounting entry, the donor shipping charges
will be applied to the AIEF actual shipping costs when we ship to
Tanzania.
From a donor perspective, the
tax deductible donation amount will be for both the cost of the books and
the related shipping, which will show on the donor's invoice.
The
"Ship To" address for book donations purchased through the ARMA Bookstore
